"Sunshine Friends Social Project"
Yury Alvarez and Alejandra Calvo are Costa Rican mothers, friends, and owners of both Sunshine Babysitting Costa Rica and Tico Friends Tamarindo. We decided to start Sunshine Friends Social Project, an idea born from our desire to help those in need in communities surrounding our beautiful area
In Guanacaste one out of every three children between zero and six years old lives in a poor household. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Census, (Instituto Nacional de Estadisticas y Censos/INEC, 2014) a household is considered as poor when its income per capita is below or equal to the poverty line of the area. In the case of our rural areas that amount is 81,344 CRC. Extreme poverty is determined by comparing that same income per capita with the value of the basic food basket, which amounts to 40,000 CRC.
41.2% of children under 7 years old reside in households whose members have a low education level. Assistance to education centers for children is low, 38.1% according to the 2011 census. Boys and Girls receive only 4 hours of lessons per day in public primary schools. Half of them finish high school. Public primary schools and high schools have limited resources, often of low quality. In 2009, the percentage of the population that finished primary education was only 46%.
Our goal is to collect a small contribution for underprivileged children. A small contribution means donating a notebook, crayons, coloring books, backpacks, pencils, mats for kindergartners, or anything you know a child needs to attend school. Clothes, shoes, games, toys, bicycles, etc, are also welcome. If you would like to donate food we can grocery shop at no extra cost.
This is a good way for your kids to start positively affecting the lives of others
Please contact us if you would like to make a donation to a public or a small school.
